I enjoyed seeing what all the kids came up with today at Rogers Elementary school for a workshop I did in illustrating with pen and watercolour pencils. The images shown are from Kindergarten to Grade 3. Everyone did such a great job!

This week I have been having fun getting images ready to inspire the kids at Rogers Elementary to become illustrators for the day. The grade 2' s and 3's are going to draw monsters with one eye with pen & ink and watercolour pencil crayons. I am looking forward to seeing what the kids come up with!
I am offering a workshop for kids ages 6 - 11 yrs old on Thursday February 11th, 3:30 - 5 pm at Poppet Creative where we will make two beautiful greeting cards using pen & ink with watercolour pencil crayons. Please visit http://www.poppetcreative.com/register/watercolour-pen to register.
During the last few weeks I have enjoyed going through my handouts I have created over the years as I prepare for the classes I will be teaching at Poppet Creative starting this week. Here are some step by step examples of pen & ink with watercolour paint and watercolour pencil crayons I thought I would share.
I am pleased to say that I will be joining the Poppet teaching team at Poppet Creative, in the heart of the Oaklands neighbourhood at 1508 Haultain Street. You are welcome to look at the classes offered at Poppet in January at www.poppetcreative.com. I will be offering an "Absolute Beginner Watercolours" class for adults and a "Beginner Watercolour for Home Learners" class for ages 8+ starting Thursday, January 28, 2016. You can also view more information on this site under classes. This image was created from a photograph I took in Prince George on a frosty day near the Nechako river, with a thick covering of snow on the ground. For the card design (above) I simplified the image by taking out the background, the bench in the foreground and shadows from the trees to create the snow effect. The red birds are inspired from local birds in Victoria, sitting on a telephone wire. The image below is a painting I did from the same photo several years ago in watercolour.
Here is a creation I did for my daughter's grade 1 class last spring to help raise money for PAC. The kids were amazing to work with and I love that they all had their own unique way of creating a heart!

Her children provide constant inspiration and have taught Jessica to slow down and look at the flowers along the way, as well as the mud, sticks and fallen leaves.
