Pen & Ink with Watercolours
Suggested Art Supply List

This supply list is a suggestion only, to give you an idea of the colours and materials I use.  Please bring your own palette and brushes that you would normally use.

Paints – I use a good artist quality watercolour like Winsor Newton (WN).   Some of the colours listed are Winsor Newton (WN), but any brand is fine.  Any artist brand, or student brand can be used together.   Colours do not have to be exactly as listed.  Bring your favourite colours.  Here is a list of some the main colours I use (the ones in bold are my favourites):

WN Permanent Rose (red should look more magenta than orange), WN French Ultramarine, WN Winsor Yellow, WN Winsor Blue, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Quinacridone Gold, Brown Madder,  Sap Green, Aureolin Yellow,  Paynes Grey or Indigo

Brushes – Please bring what ever you would normally use.  Here are some that I use;
Variety of rounds such as; series 700, #5 or #6  and # 8 or #10
Angle brush series 725, ¼”
Flat, series 968, 1“
Filbert, series 620, size 4
Filbert, series 880, ¼” – ¾“

Paper –
Canson XL Watercolor Pad  - 9” x 12” (any size is fine) – Can be found at Opus or Micheals

Optional: 100% rag/cotton, Hot Press, 140 lb 22” x 30” x 1 sheet, cut up into quarters of 11” x 15”, please avoid Arches as I have had some problems with it pilling, Fabriano is my favourite at the moment.

Misc -
Palette with lots of flat areas for mixing

      Pencil
      Knead-able eraser
      Kleenex and/or Paper Towel
      HB Pencil (or 2H)
Sketch book or paper for pen and ink exercises, loose leaf paper is fine too
Variety of fine tip black waterproof pens – such as Pigma micron 005 -02, 05
Water proof drawing ink – a darker colour such as black or brown
Drawing nib such as nib #512 and holder or nib #102 and holder – * make sure nib fits into holder before you leave the store  (any                drawing nib is fine)
Board for taping watercolour paper on to – 12” x 16”; use a wood board that has been sealed so the water doesn’t effect the board,             or  Gatorboard 12” x 16”, found at Island Blue for $11.95 per sheet.   (Please note that this gatorboard is found at the art store, and             it is not used in  construction.) *I do have extra boards in the class that you can use too, you just have to remove the painting at             the end of class.
Green painter’s tape or masking tape (green painters tape removes easily without tearing the paper)
Removable Frisket or art masking fluid - optional

(Island Blue and Artworld will give you 10% off if you mention you are in classes at Poppet Creative. Opus will give  you a 20% coupon for a one time purchase with your registration that you will receive in the first class.)
