Working from a Photograph in Watercolours
Suggested Art Supply List
Instructor: Jessica Milne
Photo references will be supplied, but feel free to bring your own. My demonstation for this class will be a landscape.
This supply list is a suggestion only, to give you an idea of the colours and materials I use. Please bring your own palette and brushes that you would normally use. A selection of primary colours, and burnt umber are useful.
Paints – I use a good artist quality watercolour like Winsor Newton (WN) or M Graham. Some of the colours listed are Winsor Newton (WN), but any brand is fine. Please note that different brands can be used together. Here is a list of some the main colours I use:
Permanent Rose (red is cool, not orange)
French Ultramarine
Primary Yellow such as WN Winsor Yellow
Burnt Umber
WN Winsor Blue (Green or Red Shade)
Quinacridone Gold
Brushes – Please bring what ever you would normally use. Here are some that I use;
Variety of rounds such as; series 700, #5 or #6 and # 8 or #10
Angle brush series 725, ¼”
Flat, series 968, 1“
Filbert, series 620, size 4
Filbert, series 880, ¼” – ¾“
Misc - Palette with lots of flat areas for mixing, one with a lid is preferable
HB Pencil
kneadable eraser
Kleenex or paper towel
Masking tape, green painters tape or White Artist Tape for attaching paper to board
1 sheet of CP 140lb watercolour paper, 11” x 15” (100% cotton is preferred but not necessary)*
Sketch book – if you already have one
* if you work fast, you may want to bring extra sheets of 11"x 15" sheets of watercolour paper. I will have 100% cotton, 140 CP 11” x 15” sheets available in the classroom for $3.00 each.
Several images or photos to use as inspiration for a painting
